First Friday-It's a Thing!

Find this sign as you follow the Art Trail...it's a monthly event that is gaining popularity in the Vernon and Coldstream area. Through collaborative promotion and grassroots advocacy, the goal is to establish First Friday as a staple of the city's cultural calendar, drawing residents and visitors alike to experience the richness and vitality of Greater Vernon’s artistic landscape.  We will celebrate creativity, forge new connections, and nurture a supportive community where everyone feels valued and connected, enriching our neighborhoods and the greater community.

As the project leader I'm passionate about engaging local artists and the neighborhoods we live and work in. Do I love all the administrative behind the scenes work? No but it is necessary to make it happen! Look for this logo at participating artists and dare to explore the area's artist studios. You'll see a wide variety of styles and media and the artists are on hand to share with you their media and methods.

The idea originated from my artist residency experience in Texas where "First Friday" engaged the community and provided a fun, joyful and uplifting event. The idea is simple yet impactful: on the first Friday of each month, artists open their studios to the public, inviting them to explore their creative spaces, engage with their work, and experience the artistic process firsthand.
